Coffee, Tea, And Error Correction
Hello everybody! We are pleased to announce another successful event for the CATESOL San Gabriel Valley chapter. It was held on Saturday, June 9 from 10 am to 12 pm at the Stanford Academy (thank you to Cindy Shao for letting us use the wonderful facilities). The topic was Coffee, Tea, and Error Correction, and it was both fun and informative, thanks to everyone, especially Carol Burrill, who was our master teacher. Carol led us in a jigsaw activity where we got to chat with a variety of fellow ESL teachers, from high schools, adult schools, community colleges, and IEPs around the San Gabriel Valley.
We explored the complex decisions made by teachers everywhere: deciding when and how to correct student errors, oral and written. We learned many things, but a few of the most interesting ideas for me related to other teachers’ error correction philosophy and the differences in error correction frequency, both for written material and oral feedback. All in all, it was a wonderful two hours spent with fellow ESL professionals in a relaxed and educational environment. I would encourage everyone to attend an upcoming Coffee, Tea, and _______ future event of the CATESOL San Gabriel Valley Chapter!
